Fabric Envelopes
Gift Card Envelope and Large Envelope
Supplies: 2 fat eighths fabric pieces (9”x22”)
1 fat eighth size batting piece (9”x22”)
General sewing supplies such as pins, thread to match, scissors, etc.
Step one: Trace and cut fabric and batting to match the included paper template. I have used a file folder as my sturdier template after tracing the design on it.
Step two: Starting from the bottom. Place the batting down, then put fabric 1 wrong side to batting and the right side facing up. Place fabric 2 right side down and wrong side up. Your fabrics will lay with the right sides together on top of your batting. Pin the layers together.
Step three: Sew ¼ inch seam being sure to leave a 2-3” opening for turning the fabric right side out. Trim corners to eliminate the bulk in the seam allowance. Turn right sides out and press. Be sure to tuck the seam allowance into the opening.
Step four: Top stitch all the way around using an ? inch seam allowance. Be sure to catch the fabric in the spot that you had for your opening.
Step five: Determine the folding position you desire and press. Stitch down each side. I follow my top stitching and stitch as close or right on my top stitching. Do not sew down your flap.
Add a closure if desired. I use buttons and tiny hair ties. You can add snaps, velcro, or even a fancy safety pin.
